Hi, I’m Tia Norman.

I am a dedicated teacher and guide specializing in spirituality, rooted in the mystical teachings of the Christian Contemplative tradition.

My journey into contemplative practices began during a challenging period of personal and professional turmoil. Feeling a profound call to delve into scripture and embrace silence, I discovered a path that profoundly transformed my life. Having been raised outside of organized religion and church settings, my goal is to make the spiritual journey accessible and relatable through approachable language and practices.

I lead workshops, retreats, and courses, and I serve as the Pastor of Awakenings, Inc., a contemplative community in Houston, Texas.

In addition to teaching and guiding, I write, speak, and create offerings designed to help individuals, organizations, and communities lead more authentic, centered, and empowered lives.

Education + Training

When I felt called to teach and lead in this way, I knew my education would be unconventional. Instead of pursuing an advanced degree, I chose to learn directly from those who serve, love and lead in ways I admire. My formation includes learning from thought leaders and spiritual teachers such as Richard Rohr, Rob Bell and Phileena Nikole.

I am a sendee of the 2023 Cohort of the Living School offered by the Center for Action and Contemplation, whose faculty includes Father Rohr, Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault, Rev. Dr. Barbara Holmes, Rev. Dr. Brian McLaren, and Dr. James Finley.

Additionally, I was a member of the 2016-2017 Foundations of Christian Leadership cohort, a program by Leadership Education at Duke Divinity.

My studies encompass coursework on The Spiritual Journey and Formation Teaching in the Christian Contemplative Life, based on the teachings of Father Thomas Keating.

I am a certified Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra guide and hold a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Texas Tech University.
